I got a question for you.
Do you know how many calories you ate this week?
No?
My man, figure it out.
This is non-negotiable if you have aspirations of mastering your body (and looking like a Greek statue).
I know, I know..
Sounds like a pain in the butt. Sounds “unnatural”. And you know that one guy at the gym who never counted a single calorie in his life and is jacked.
I’m with you. The fact of the matter is you don’t have to know anything about calories to lose fat or build muscle.
But..
Once you gain a thorough understanding of energy balance, you will be able to manipulate and control your body to a degree that is impossible without it.
Put in the work. Measure out your food and drink. Count your calories. And do it meticulously.
Know exactly how many grams of carbohydrates, protein and fat, how many CALORIES you take in every day.
Do this for 3 months straight.
[No excuses. I told you you need to raise your standards.]
Make no mistake. This is not just about the way you look. It goes far beyond that.
Personally, I don’t do any weighing or measuring anymore. However, I always know how much food, how much energy I’m putting into my body, give or take.
I look at my plate and can estimate, quite accurately, what I’m working with. Particularly if I prepared the meal myself. A little harder if you’re eating out, but still very manageable.
No, I wasn’t born with calorie X-ray vision and I’m certainly not smarter than you.
But I put in the work.
For years, I weighed out everything I ate, counted every calorie, every macronutrient, tracked every meal and was very diligent about it.
Pain in the butt?
100%. But this admittedly tedious intervention taught me more about the body and what it needs to operate at peak capacity than any book, research paper, or so-called expert.
Without a foundational understanding of energy balance, I’d still be jumping from one diet to another like a headless chicken.
What does this have to do with getting high, you ask?
Everything.
How eating DEATH CALORIES gave me superpowers
About a year ago, I was training and eating like a madman in the pursuit of more size.
Though I was fasting till late afternoon/evening every day, I would routinely put away enormous amounts of food. We’re talking sumo wrestler calories.
After doing this for months on end, the common and very unpleasant sides of overeating started showing up at my front door.
I got slower, lazier, and generally felt miserable.
Then one day, I accidentally ate about a third of what I would usually consume. I say “accidentally” because I didn’t plan on it, it just so happened that day.
And what do you know? The next morning, I woke up feeling rejuvenated, fresh, energized, happy. It was like a light was switched back on in my head.
I felt incredible.
I started throwing in regular days of starvation, where I would eat a single, modest meal at the end of the day.
And over the course of the following weeks, I noticed my cognitive function, specifically my word recollection and speaking was much improved.
Motivation, drive, and mental acuity were at an all-time high. Surprisingly, physical performance was also phenomenal.
I just wanted to move, create, and do stuff all day. Great place to be, let me tell you.
Now, this is where things got really interesting.
One afternoon as I was standing outside our pizzeria here, chatting with one of the employees, I took a glance around and noticed something was.. different.
My senses were much sharper. Particularly my vision and sense of smell.
I looked at the flowers on our terrace, the buildings in the neighborhood, the cars, the people walking by, the clouds in the sky.
Everything looked much sharper, much more alive. The colors were crisper and more vivid. It was like removing a filter from my eyes.
That very moment as I was enjoying my new superpowers an intense feeling of calm and contentment washed over me.
I felt incredible. I felt better than I had in years. I was high.
In retrospect, I can tell you this was a side-effect of undereating. I was experiencing my body’s emergency response to the lack of energy.
The high adrenaline, high cortisol (and low insulin) cocktail had me feeling like I just won the lottery.
As you can imagine, I wanted to maintain this state, so I started cycling in regular days of rock-bottom calories every week.
On most days, however, – and this is key – I ate to my heart’s content. Chronic deprivation will crush your metabolism, your ability to perform at a high level, and ultimately your quality of life.
So in no way am I condoning a low-calorie diet.
But eating DEATH calories a couple times a week.. boy oh boy.. magic.
To this day, I follow a similar setup, routinely eating for a family of 4 and sprinkling in a day or two of death calories.
I certainly got my fingers burned here and there by overdoing the low-calorie days, but that’s how you learn. I limit myself to no more than 2-3 days of starvation a week.
This cyclical diet has allowed me to perform and look my best. Quite frankly, it has made my life more enjoyable.
Is this something I would recommend others do? Is this something I recommend for you?
What do you think? OF COURSE!
I mean let’s call a spade a spade here. A lot of you reading this are eating way more than you should and would benefit tremendously by tightening up your diet.
The Master Routine For Life
“Where do I start? And how?”
Eat healthy, sure. Eat your protein and veggies, ya ya sure.
My man.. that’s all kindergarten stuff if you ask me. What I’m giving you here blows any of that out of the water.
I don’t care what you eat.
You can eat nothing but burgers and ice cream ‘n still see the best results of your life on this routine.
Here’s how: Eat to complete satisfaction 5 days of the week. And on TWO days of the week, eat half of what you’d normally consume. Maybe even less than that.
Quit messing around. Really bring your calories down on those 2 days. The rest? Everything goes.
Again, I don’t care what you eat. This will produce dramatic results regardless. Better food choices will only enhance your experience.
Now, throw in daily training, get in 8h+ of sleep every night and you’ll be in for a serious treat.
Life is good.
Time to start living it well.
Are you ready to massively step your game up?
Wanna build powerful muscle without a gym?
Wanna get ripped for life without dieting?
Enroll in my 1 on 1 program where I will PERSONALLY take you from zero to superhero inside 20 weeks.
I’ll see you on the other side.

Awesome article as usual, Victor. You are becoming one of my favorite bloggers! There are not many, who link nutrition and training to the “outside” stuff like, you know, life and mental performance. Doing this in isolation or focussing only on looks is really a loss.
I’ve experienced this high on a 48 hour fast (inspired by your articles), too, beginning at around the 30 hour mark. It was downright ridiculous! I was in a shitty and deeply depressing personal situation and I started to feel a severe sense of “joy” again. Lights got brighter, smells amplified, … life in and of itself was good and sufficient again. I could focus on that instead of my losses. No f**king way could I have experienced this on a more moderate approach to dieting!
Thanks, my man!
Greetings from Germany

Thank you for your perspective Sascha.
It is truly remarkable what fasting can do. I’ve said it many times and I’ll keep saying it again: Fasting and brutal resistance training will put things into perspective like nothing else.
Once you’ve gone a couple days without food and blasted your body with repeated bouts of intense training, you will forget about all the unnecessary distractions and worries in life and regain focus of what really matters.
Being healthy, being strong, being a role model, being a provider, being the man people go to in times of need.
Fasting will always remain in my arsenal for that reason.
