Ask your vegan friend about the current state of the world and she’ll likely freak out about Donald Trump’s latest escapades, big pharma, the incessant destruction of our planet and her racist-sexist co-workers.
It’s all going to hell and there’s nothing we can do about it.
But what your friend, Susan, fails to comprehend is that this world was always in chaos. People have always been spineless and corrupt. The powerful have always preyed on the weak. And life was never “fair”.
The difference between then and now is we’ve become soft as baby sh*t.
We can’t handle the truth. We can’t deal with the challenges life presents. We’re so used to navigating life with training wheels that when they finally come off, we fall flat on our faces.
How To Find Purpose In The Modern World
It’s really funny how our mind works.
We always think it’s them. We think they are responsible. We think they are the problem.
But it’s never them. It’s always us. It’s always you. Remember when Gandhi urged you to be the change you wanted to see in the world? What he really meant to say was stop being a whiny little bitch and start taking action.
Your complaints are not helping anyone, least of all yourself.
But how do you wipe the slate clean? How do you start over? And how do you find your purpose in this world?
Get up and get physical.
Push yourself beyond your comfort zone, beyond what you think you can or should do. Challenge your body and mind. And do it every day.
This is where you become who you need to be. Not just for yourself, but for everyone around you.
Meditation is for Pussies
Meditation is not the answer.
The answers don’t come to you when you’re standing still. The answers don’t come to you when you’re dwelling on problems and over-thinking your life’s direction. They come to you when you’re moving, when you’re building, when you’re doing.
Look at people suffering from depression. What do they do all day? Sit around and complain about their misfortune.
Now, think of the last time you finished a grueling workout or came home from a run drenched in sweat. Did you feel like the world conspired against you? No. You felt like a million bucks. You felt like there was nothing you couldn’t do.
Good things come to people in motion, never to people sitting on the sidelines.
If you ever find yourself lost in the tide, put your shoes on and go for a run, do some hill sprints, drop to the floor and bang out some push-ups. Get the blood flowing. Build momentum and keep it going through daily repetition.
Hit the gym hard 3-5 days a week and go for a 6o-min walk every single day.
Do these two things consistently and you will know exactly what to do.
The answers will come to you when you stop over-thinking and over-analyzing. When you stop worrying, and you start doing.
If there ever was a cure for depression and anxiety it’s getting the blood pumping. If there ever was a cure for uncertainty, fear, and procrastination it’s getting your ass in motion. Nothing else comes close.
Stop over-thinking and start doing.
