I’ve never been more motivated, more driven in my entire life.
I’m walking around giggling with excitement just thinking about my next training session or my next muscle-building meal. I’m pumped to go to bed early every day knowing that I will wake up bigger and leaner the next morning.
And when my head hits the pillow at night, I can’t wait to wake up and kick ass yet another day.
This drive doesn’t come from watching motivational videos or reading inspirational quotes on Insta. This is the product of consistent action. It comes from working toward a goal and racking up daily victories.
It comes from momentum.
The Power of Momentum
What is momentum?
If you flip open the dictionary you’ll find something along these lines: “strength or force gained by motion or by a series of events”
Simply put, momentum is the energy that gets you out of bed ready to crush the day. It is the force that keeps you going strong long after others have thrown in the towel. It is what separates the doers from the talkers.
No momentum = no energy.
The “problem” with momentum is if you slip up, you’re back to square one. There are no lasting effects, no bonus points. Once it’s gone, it’s gone.
Momentum is like an old-school video game where you make it through dozens of punishing levels only to die at the hands of the final boss… and restart at the very first level.
Once your momentum is gone, it’s game over. There are no retries, no extra lives, no continues. You have to start from scratch.
The good news is it’s entirely up to you to build momentum and keep it going strong every single day. Following the steps outlined in this article, you will harness the power of momentum for unlimited energy and unrivaled ass-kicking ability.
Action Jackson
How do you gain momentum?
There’s only one way to acquire it. Momentum can only be gained and maintained through daily action.
And this is the hard part. You have to force yourself to get going. You have to force yourself to take action, to execute even when you don’t feel like it (f*ck your feelings).
You are the master of your mind and body. You are in control. Make action your only option. Make it a habit. Make doing your default.
Once you break the cycle of procrastination you’ll be steamrolling ahead while everyone else is busy scratching their heads. And this is where the fun starts.
As you start racking up your daily victories, things start moving seemingly without effort. You’re doing the “right things” every day without thinking about it.
That my friend is momentum.
No Rest For The Wicked
Here’s what I want you to do right now:
- Set a goal for yourself (i.e. lose 5 kg)
- Do one thing every day that moves you closer to that goal
Set a goal for yourself and execute. But instead of focusing on every little detail at once, focus on doing 1 thing every day. One thing that will move you closer to your goal.
Doesn’t matter how good or bad you feel that day. Doesn’t matter how busy or overworked you are. Your objective is to take one step towards victory every day.
You want to lose fat?
Do one thing every day that gets you closer to your goal.
Go for a 60-min walk, do 200 push-ups, do some stretching and mobility work, eat a nutritious breakfast and skip that 4 PM candy bar. Get 7-9 hours of sleep every night.
Don’t try and do everything at once. That’s a guaranteed fail. Instead, do one thing every day, without fail. Leave yourself no option, no out.
Not procrastinating, not thinking about doing, not waiting for the right moment, not wishing, not day-dreaming. In this world, actions are the only accepted currency. Everything else is filler material. Only actions will get you from A to B.
You can’t afford to take days off. A “days-off” mentality will keep you stuck at square one. Don’t lose the edge. In this game, you stop, you die.
Take another look at the definition of momentum; the keywords there are strength and motion. Strength is gained through motion. Strength requires motion.
Stay on your toes my friend. There’s no rest for the wicked.
