But not for vanity. Not for looks. I’m doing this for one reason and one reason only: To take my calisthenics training to the next level.
I’ve reached a plateau at my current weight. And to be perfectly honest, I haven’t been able to progress in a meaningful way in recent memory.
If you’ve watched any of my latest videos, you know I’m anything but out-of-shape. Still, I’m not where I know I should be.
You see, when you’re lifting weights in the gym, you can use any additional bodyweight, any additional fluff as leverage to lift more weight.
A higher bodyweight will translate to a bigger bench press and a stronger squat. Your deadlifts and other bodybuilding exercises will benefit from higher levels of bodyfat as well (why do you think powerlifters look the way they do?).
Bodyweight training is a different game entirely.
If you want to master your own bodyweight, you have to shed any excess weight and reveal your ultimate self.

I’ve made the mistake in the past of trying to force more muscle, more weight onto my frame with high-calorie eating, excess volume in the gym and doing anything and everything I could to add more size.
I got bigger, but I paid the price. Never again.
I’m not interested in chasing size anymore.
I’m not interested in having my muscles burn out prematurely in the gym anymore.
I’m not interested in feeling like I need 3 days to recover between workouts anymore.
I’m not interested in feeling so damn sluggish and lacking any kind of explosivity anymore.
To hell with that.
I want to become a legitimate calisthenics MONSTER. And for that, I will need to lose some weight.
How will I do it?
Certainly not with a standard diet or silly weight-loss protocol. No.
I’m becoming a LEAN MACHINE.
