I have no more fears. I have no more doubts. I have no more questions.
At this point in my life, I know exactly what to do and how to do it.
This unshakable certainty doesn’t come from reading books or listening to experts. It comes from the gut.
Sadly, most of us have lost the innate ability to listen. We’ve lost the ability to communicate with our bodies. We’ve lost the primal instinct that guides us.
Ignoring our intuitions, our instincts, our “gut feeling” we go out into the world looking for answers. We listen to this expert, that doctor and this guru. We listen to any and everyone, but ourselves. We trust any and everyone, but ourselves.
The truth, however, lies within.
Your gut knows better
“A man can be too confiding in others, but never too confident in himself.” – Orison S. Marden
Deep down you know exactly what you must do and how to do it. You have all the tools at your disposal. But you lack the critical ingredient of greatness – faith.
You don’t trust yourself (the only person you must ever fully trust). And this lack of self-confidence makes you a target for the industry, for the marketers and their empty promises. They can smell uncertainty and fear like sharks can smell blood.
And they will stop at nothing to get you.
I don’t believe in selling garbage to make a profit. No matter how fancy you package it or what cute little name you give it. Garbage is garbage.
Call me a fool, but I believe in integrity, honesty and service. I believe in the truth.
You see a great man once told me that the best marketing strategy in the world is having the best product in the world. But that is another story for another day.
Yes, you want to expand your horizons. You want to learn as much as you can. You want to know the rules of the game in and out. But you do not want to chase (other people’s) answers like a dog chasing a bone.
You want to become independent. Knowledge will give you independence. Ok, that’s only half the story. Knowledge combined with faith will grant you independence.
Know it. Believe it.
How many reps should you do? Which exercises are best? How many calories should you eat? How much protein do you need?
Millions of questions. Millions of answers.
Instead of listening to Johnny Juicehead and Doctor Dolittle, turn around and listen to the guy in the mirror.
Yes, do the work. Learn as much as you can but then detach. Ignore the experts, the books, the magazines. Ignore the noise and start listening to your gut. This is truly where you will find your answers.
You know how they say the bench press is the best chest builder in existence. But tell me, what good is the bench press if it causes you massive shoulder pain?
They say whey protein is the best protein source on earth. But tell me, what good is it if you can’t digest it?
They say cookies are bad for you. But tell me, why do they taste so damn good?
Stop looking at others to solve your problems. You gotta start figuring shit out for yourself. Nobody can figure your shit out for you.
You’d be better off not reading a single book in your lifetime and cultivating your intuition, as opposed to reading every book ever published and never listening to your guts (and nuts).
Personally, I’ve learned a great deal from reading books, journals and, yes, even magazines. But nothing taught me more than my own gut instinct. There is no teacher greater than your intuition. But you have to cultivate it. You have to train it. And you have to learn to respond at the right time.
Only then will you have a shot at uncovering your true potential. And I want you to make it. It’s lonely here at the top.
Thank you for reading
