“The second you start letting outside shit being a factor is the second you start losing. I don’t give a fuck about anything.” – Gary Vaynerchuck
Crabs in a Barrel
You’re going to run into heavy opposition on your way to a better body, a bigger paycheck or personal freedom.
People left and right are going to try and talk some “sense” into you. They’ll tell you it’s normal to be weak and push a belly the size of a baby elephant. They’ll tell you it’s OK to have no energy and no drive. They’ll tell you it’s perfectly fine to have a shitty desk job, trading in your most valuable commodity – TIME – for a measly paycheck.
Why would you want to be different anyway? Why not just fit in? Why not take the easy way out? Everybody’s doing it. “Dad bod” is the new 6-pack abs right now and your desk job comes with dental insurance.
People will tell you anything to comfort you, to keep you content, to keep you stuck at square one. They couldn’t handle watching you soar past them, so they try to keep you satisfied with being a whiny little bitch. It’s not because they’re bad people. It is because they’re afraid of change and they’re afraid of doing what is necessary.
“A person who is constantly worried about how others will perceive her, who is afraid of creating the wrong impression, or of doing something inappropriate, is also condemned to permanent exclusion from enjoyment.” – Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
Your girlfriend, your boss, your buddies… stop giving them power over you. Stop letting their views limit your perspective. Whether you’re aware of it or not, their beliefs and opinions determine who you ultimately become.
As long you care more about how the world sees you than who you really are you will never be free to do the things you want to do, you will never reach your potential and you will lead a life of regret and resentment.
You cannot do your part, you cannot add value to this world if you’re unhappy with who you see in the mirror.
Be A Selfish Bastard
When the chips are down it’s you and only you.
Put yourself and your needs first in order to move forward. Isolate yourself. Eliminate negative forces from your life and focus exclusively on the task at hand, on the mission. You know what you have to do. Stop fantasizing about it and do it.
Intentions, desires, hopes and beliefs mean nothing in this world. Actions are the only accepted currency.
Close the doors behind you and do what’s necessary every day. Become the mad scientist. Look for progress in everything you do, while keeping the picture of your goal, of the end result ingrained in your mind at all times.
When you’re confronted with resistance from your peers, ask yourself, how does their opinion affect you? In what way are you tied to their approval? How does anyone’s opinion matter more than your own?
It doesn’t.
Once you detach yourself from this notion, you will start seeing things for what they truly are. Procrastination and insecurity will vanish as assertiveness and confidence enter your life.
Welcome to the real world.
